To update your computer to the most recent operating system, follow the instructions below based on which operating system you are running. Periodically, updates will be pushed out to devices from the tech department and may need manual user intervention to complete the update.

Windows:

  1. Log in to your computer and get to the desktop
  2. Click the Windows logo in the bottom-left side of the screen
  3. Begin typing "Settings" and click the settings app once it appears in the search list
  4. Click on "Updates and Security" (Windows 10) or "Windows Updates" (Windows 11)
  5. Click the check for updates button or install updates button on that page
  6. Once updates are installed, Windows will prompt you to restart your machine, you can schedule your machine to restart outside of active hours so it will not interfere with your workday

ChromeOS
  1. Log into your Chromebook/Chromebox and open Google Chrome
  2. Click the three dots in the top-right of the browser
  3. Hover over the "Help" option, then click "About Google Chrome" in the drop-down
  4. Chrome will automatically check for the most recent version on that page. If it installs an update, it will prompt you to restart your device which only takes 10-20 seconds
